River Oaks Academy provides special education in Houston, TX, tailored to each student’s academic, social, and behavioral needs. Aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), we implement a curriculum that meets, accommodates, and applies necessary modifications based on professional evaluation information and standards for your child.

Over the decades, we have taken special care to get to know our students and their individual needs as we cultivate an accepting and welcoming environment for students who are having difficulties blending in with large groups. With our specialized programs, you can rest assured your child will not be lost in the crowd.

Our school is located on the west side of Houston in the Westchase area. There is a metro-bus service one block from the school at the corner of Rodgerdale and Richmond Ave.

Individualized Education Program (IEP)

River Oaks Academy’s flagship and most requested program is our Individualized Education Program (IEP), which uses a wide range of proven educational strategies ready to meet the needs of each student. An IEP is designed with parents or guardians, addressing students’ specific needs or desires, such as support for:

Intensive Daily Support and Therapies

Accommodation can be made for life situations that require educational alternatives.
This program is available for students in grades K through 12 and coincides with one of our academic tracks.

Tutoring and Afterschool Program

After-school tutoring and programming are available from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Teachers and staff are available to tutor in specific classes, help with homework, and organize upcoming assignments and test preparation. In addition to academics, the program also provides students with recreational activities.

River Oaks Academy offers summer day camp, academic enrichment, and credit recovery programs for challenged but highly driven students. Activities include:

  • Academic Enrichment

The program is also for children who need to be productively engaged and safe as well as those who may not adjust well to other day camps due to conditions like ADHD, ADD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and impulse control problems. Nonetheless, we believe that every child needs to have fun with summer activities.

Credit Recovery Program for Students

Students who lack specific high school courses for graduation may enroll in one or more courses to remediate or complete classes they lack, did not complete, withdrew from, or failed. Our teachers can provide support and help in getting through those last few classes with our credit recovery program.

Transition Program

River Oaks Academy provides transitional and transfer programming for students coming to Houston during the school year for various family and personal reasons. While some families may have been relocated by employers, others may come from treatment centers, group homes, wilderness camps, or boarding schools. These students can enroll and take advantage of the transition program anytime during the school year.

As an accredited school and by following the State of Texas requirements, River Oaks Academy course credits may be transferred to any school so that the student does not fall further behind in their studies.
